"This book was a result of my interest in the coal mining history of the Crowsnest Pass (CNP), Alberta, as I was born there in 1952 and lived there until I was 18, then I went to the university of Calgary. I worked the summers in the Coleman Collieries Ltd underground B-Level mine, so for about one year, and I worked 4 months at the tipple, then for another year after school. When I left the Pass in 1976, I stayed in the Natural Resources industry, but this time it was Oil and Gas, where I stayed for the next 30 years. This book was completed for the 125th Anniversary of the Coal Industry in the Eastern CNP to share with the residents and past residents of the Pass, some of the coal mining history, and the work that was done by the miners. I wanted the attendees to remember our Fathers, Grandfathers, Uncles, Cousins, Co-workers, Friends and Neighbors, for their toughness, bravery, hard work and fortitude, and wanting to make a better life for their families, risking that they may not come home from work one day. I could write a story about each photograph and each subject in this book, as there is so much information in the archives of museums and on the Internet. Mine is a general summary, but I hope that it inspires other 'histori-ans' to do further research. We are small/coal town people and we have developed a solid bond with each other growing up, and which exists to this day. We are known for this special identity, and we embrace it."--
